Hi friends,
I haven't written to you in two weeks and it feels so uncomfortable so I'm back! Lol
I've been feeling quite overwhelmed lately because I haven't made as much progress towards my goals as I had hoped.
I figured out how to alleviate that and refocus on making meaningful progress, so that's what we're going to talk about today.
For context :
I noticed after starting my new YouTube channel, I felt compelled to take on more things.
I wanted to fix my daily routines start working out, work on my business, branch out to other forms of content creation, etcโฆ
You should be familiar with the feeling of getting a random burst of motivation and suddenly wanting to fix everything.
From studies, to sleep schedules, to your social media addiction, etc.
I could already see how I was setting myself up for defeat.
A part of me really wants to utilise the motivation and take on as much as I can, but I know a lot of effort spread into different directions leads to little or no progress in any direction.
So I decided to find common ground and not neglect any part of me.
Find a way to focus on one goal, but still be able to take on more in the shortest amount of time.
I did my research and found out how to do just that:
Fundamentally, when you start something new, the amount of time and energy required to get used to it is a lot.
Like getting used to a new school or job.
Everyone and everything looks new to you. You don't know where to locate things, and who to talk to for specific things.
But eventually with time, things start to become a lot easier and repetitive so you don't even have to put much thought into it.
This is exactly what you need to do with your personal goals as well.
Unfortunately ( or fortunately ), it's going to be a lot harder and take more time in comparison to things that you're forced to do like go to work or school in order to survive.
But you learn a lot more about yourself and grow past your own limitations once you start putting yourself first and do things you don't necessarily need to.
The idea here is to start with Only one thing.
Something not too difficult or too easy so you can push yourself but not discourage yourself when you get off track.
Use that one goal to build trust in yourself so you have data points that prove that you can follow through with something even if it's not dependent on your survival.
Put measures in place that keep you accountable, stick to it until you reach the level at which it feels easier and less time consuming to you.
When that period finally comes, then you can add another task to your schedule.
You don't have to wait till your goal is achieved for you to take on new things.
You just have to have the mental, physical and emotional capacity to add something to your schedule.
The best example I can give is the YouTube channel I work on ( not my personal one )
I started with making 20 thumbnails every single day. I'd spend almost 4 hrs just to complete them.
But eventually I found faster ways to get it done. And now I spend about an hour + 30 mins making them.
My workload increased and I started posting videos too, which was more involving than I thought but I'm used to it now.
Iโm currently working on my own personal channel but still have enough time on my hands because what I do for work doesn't feel that involving anymore.
had I started my own channel while working on the other, I probably would have quit both before I even got the hang of anything.
I hope that makes sense.
Incase that went over your head:
Pick One Thing.
Easy enough to give you some pride if you stay consistent but meaningful enough to change your life (even if it's a minimal change).
Stay Consistent.
Its definitely going to be harder and more time consuming in the beginning, but if you can get over that uncomfortability, it only gets easier over time with more reps. Don't quit, otherwise all this will be for nothing.
Take On More.
Once you're comfortable and got things under control, now's the time to have the next goal in line in the works. Preferably something that will compliment your current goal or something that will greatly impact your life.
That's it for today on the Sunday Reset! Get back on track if you've fallen off or forgotten about your goals already. This year we're making our dreams come true, no excuses. Not changing and experiencing life to its fullest is a choice in itself, so put yourself first.
Have a lovely week ahead.
